Day One

Wow!  What a day.  Everyone arrive at school all excited and ready for the trip to DC.  Thanks to many generous sponsors, big and small, we were on our way to the ATL airport by 9am.  We got our boarding pass and breezed through security.  They were very helpful and nice to us.

The flight attendants were very helpful and greeted our students very warmly on the AirTran flight.  Two students had never flown before and were very excited about the flight.  They enjoyed the small trip to DC and wanted to know when we would fly again.  We landed and walked straight to Metro.

From the airport, we went to Union station to eat a very late lunch.  From there, we met the shuttle to Gallaudet and get the keys to our dorms.  Right now, the students are unpacking and resting.  Soon, we will head back to Union Station and look around the capital.  I can't believe it!!  We are in DC!!!!!!!!!!!  Thank you everyone!!!!!!!!!!

Upcoming Washington, DC Education Trip Update

I am writing to you in behalf of the 2010 Senior Class of the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf (AASD).  For the third year in a row, our AASD seniors have plans of making an educational trip to visit Washington, D.C.  Our seniors are seeking any/all sponsors willing to support them in making their 12th grade educational trip possible.  The planned dates for the trip are from May 17-23, 2010.  Rooming accommodations have already been made for our seniors to stay at the historic Gallaudet University’s dormitories.

For our seniors, the trip to Gallaudet University and to Washington D.C. will be a truly eye-opening experience.  The chance to be exposed to deaf culture at Gallaudet University and to be immersed into a bigger Deaf community for just a few days will be life changing for them.  While in Washington D.C., the students will get the opportunity to visit the United States Capitol courtesy of the Office of Senator Saxy Chambliss (May 28th, 2010), NBC News Washington Bureau c/o of NBC Political Director Chuck Todd  (May 19th, 2010) and tour the White House with the help of the Office of First Lady Mrs. Michelle Obama (May 20th, 2010), as well as see other famous points of interests in and around the Washington D.C. area.  It will be their ultimate experience!
